BY LOUIS DAILLENCOURT
The award ceremony for the winners of Greece’s Mobility Awards 2023 took place on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, and we’re delighted to announce that Novoville and its partner, the Municipality of Trikala, were awarded the Gold Award in the 'Smart Parking' category! The awards highlight innovative practices, technologies and applications in the wider mobility and automotive sector. Our Gold award rewards the first parking system deployed in Greece which incorporates a direct return of revenue to financially vulnerable households. The Municipality of Trikala designed this system to help alleviate the growing energy and cost of living crisis, and entrusted its operations to Novoville platform. Using Novoville apps, revenues corresponding to 872,027 KWh have been collected to date for the welfare services of the Municipality of Trikala.

The award was received by the officials of Trikala’s Urban Development, Giorgos Ziogas, President, and Christos Goulas, CEO.
Mr. Ziogas commented: "Government is the art of anticipating… and we at Trikala took this seriously. Seeing the energy crisis coming, we very quickly thought of a way to strengthen vulnerable households. From the revenue generated by local parking, we decided to subsidise the electricity bills of financially vulnerable households, giving small but meaningful relief to our citizens. We extend our warmest congratulations to the Novoville team for the excellent cooperation and services they keep providing us to support our initiatives."
Novoville’s parking system was officially put into operation last September in Municipality of Trikala, with the slogan "Park & Volt", and has been credited with significantly improving traffic conditions in the city and the daily life of residents and drivers.
According to the traffic measurement sensors installed by the authorities, traffic load in Trikala decreased by 32%, while at the same time the probability of finding a parking space increased by 50%. In its first 9 months of operation, over 15,000 users registered with the Novoville application in Trikala and 335,650 successful parking transactions were carried out, representing about 460,000 hours of parking time.
A month prior to the awards ceremony, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the city of Trikala and held discussions with the Mayor of Trikala Dimitris Papastergiou, on the topic of "The Cities We Want."
Mr. Papastergiou presented the digital innovations implemented in the Municipality of Trikala for the benefit of residents. He highlighted the capabilities of the Novoville platform, which allows residents to submit requests to the Municipality and purchase parking time in seconds through a single mobile app. He also highlighted the importance of having implemented the 1st rewards-based Parking System in Greece.
"Another thing we implemented, which I consider excellent and has worked very well, is the Novoville platform that we use for monitoring and managing parking and city operations. This year, we did something impressive. We introduced a smart parking system in the city and we decided to convert half of its revenues into kilowatt-hours. This means that when residents park in controlled zones, half of the money is used to pay the monthly electricity bills for over 700 households. It is impressive how smart applications and technology can help us achieve such initiatives," said Dimitris Papastergiou, Mayor of Trikala.
